April 2012

Reminders March 2012 Examination Results GCSE Maths results will be available Thursday 19 April 2012. Summer 2012 Examinations Provisional examination timetables for the Summer 2012 Examinations have been distributed to all students. If you are concerned your child does not have their timetable or there is an error on their timetable please ask them to go to the Data Office, B3.9. GCE and GCSE Art exams are scheduled for April 2012. Summer 2012 external exams start 11th May and finish 27th June 2012. Please click here for further information. Please ensure that students have the appropriate equipment for their exams, for example calculator, maths equipment and a BLACK ink pen or ballpoint pen. Sixth form students are expected dress smartly for their exams, failure to do so may result in them not being permitted entry into the exam hall. Please note trainers, flip flops, sportswear including hoodies, shorts, crop tops etc are NOT appropriate. It is recommended that students do not bring mobile telephones with them when they have an examination timetabled, however if students need their phones they must be turned off with the battery removed for the duration of the examination, alternatively students can hand their phones in at the start of the exam. The school can take no responsibility in the possibility of loss or damage. Exam Clashes If a student has more than one examination scheduled on the same date at the same time and the exams TOTAL length are longer than 3 hours they will receive a letter with further instructions. Heads of School As we approach the end of another busy and successful term, we would like to thank all parents and carers for their support. There have been a number of exciting events and opportunities for our students, including citizenship events, sporting successes, a range of trips and visits to enhance learning and teaching in many subjects. You may have seen on our website the BBC School report which details the visit of some of our students to the Olympic Park in London. We have also had a number high profile guests such as Andrew Mitchell, Councillor Les Lawrence and Lord Rooker in school to inspire our students. The term was rounded off by a Cultural Awareness event organised by KS4 Citizenship students. Preparation for the exam season has already begun, with many subjects already running revision sessions. We would ask for your support in ensuring that your child takes full advantage of all the extra support availability and that they use the two week holiday to undertake their own independent revision. The examination timetable will be on the school website and each student will have their own printed copy. We’ve also had a Fair Trade Bakathon. Finally, thanks to all those parents and Friends of Arthur Terry School who contributed to the successful school show. Most cases are black and look very similar so it is easy for students to take the wrong case. It is also advisable instruments are taken home each night. Music staff cannot physically man the instrumental cupboard at all times and the school cannot take responsibility for missing instruments or instruments being taken out of bags when a lock is not on it. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and your continued support in keeping security a prime concern. If your child is taking GCSE Music in Year 9 as an option choice and you wish for them to start instrumental lessons please can you send an email to music@arthurterry.bham.sch.uk requesting this. Please include the pupil’s name and instrumental choice. The student will be added to the waiting lists but will be given priority over non GCSE students. Please bear in mind that certain instruments have high demand and waiting will be longer for these (Drums, Guitar Vocals).
