A huge congratulations to Arthur Terry’s Francesca Percival, who has broken all school records for the Great Midlands Fun Run. The quick footed HR manager has clocked up the fastest ever time by a female staff member. It was a fantastic feat for Francesca, as she placed 98th woman to cross the finish line and completed the run in a speedy one hour and 12 minutes. An eager seven thousand runners braved the drizzly weather conditions to take part in the event. While the typically British weather left Francesca “unable to feel her hands”, it failed to dampen spirits. Running alongside Francesca were 167 of our ‘Arthur Terry All-Stars’, taking part in aid of Stephen’s Story and the Teenage Cancer Trust, which they proudly boasted on the back of their bright yellow t-shirts. Francesca claims it was a “moment of madness” that lead her to signing up for the Great Midlands Fun Run, having previously ran the London Marathon five years ago. She said: “I prayed for unsuitable running conditions and hoped the event would not go ahead. Taking part in a fun-run is completely different to running alone – ordinarily I would never have ran in those conditions and I definitely felt the pressure.” Despite Francesca’s nerves, she blitzed the eight and a half mile challenge, not even stopping to rest on the infamous Cardiac Hill – the most gruelling phase of the run. “I had to keep going, if I stopped I never would have started again,” she said. An elated Francesca was stunned when she realised her time. The impressive result makes her the first runner from Arthur Terry to finish within the first 100 women.
