Headteachers’ Message February 2015

Yesterday we waved farewell to over 30 Year 10 Students as they embarked on an educational and cultural trip to France. This is just one of many trips and visits that are afforded our students, in the UK and abroad. Our varied trips and visits programme enriches our students’ lives in so many ways. They can bring school subjects to life, raise cultural and social awareness, develop relationships, build self-esteem, foster independence and challenge thinking. The benefits are immeasurable. Extra-curricular activities are such an intrinsic part of the life of Arthur Terry and they complement learning in so many ways. As ever we are grateful for the large numbers of support and teaching staff who give up their time, freely, to accompany our students or lead activities. Learning has to extend beyond the classroom and whether it be sporting events, outside speakers, visits to historical places of interest, musical productions, university masterclasses, Art galleries, Houses of Parliament, they all add the icing on the cake and place concepts into real life contexts. Talking of extra-curricular, we are delighted that our school show, “We Will Rock You”, will be performed at Arthur Terry from Thursday 12th to Saturday 21st March. This is one of the highlights of the school calendar and brings so many staff, students and parents together in so many ways. From starring on stage, to working backstage, from supporting with refreshments to front of house, it is a fantastic example of how generosity of spirit is given by so many people to bring pleasure to others. We do hope you will be able to join us and tickets will be available from our reception desk or by accessing the school blog. It only remains for us to wish you all a happy Half-Term Break, Best Wishes Neil Warner and Richard Gill Headteachers
