EXAMINATIONS Summer 2013 Exams will run from 10th May – 26th June 2013, personalised Exam Timetables will be issued during the week before Easter Break. January 2013 Exam Results will be issued to candidates’ tutors on 7th March 2013. AS/A Level Resits – The deadline for AS/A Level resits in the Summer 2013 Exam Series is Thursday 14th March 2013, re-sit forms are available here. Exam Certificates – Many students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 have yet to collect their Exam Certificates from the Summer 2012 Exam Series, please note we are required to hold Certificates for only ONE year before they are destroyed. Therefore we request that Certificates are collected as soon as possible from the Exams Office, B2.11 Summer 2013 Exam Results GCE – 15th August 2013 GCSE – 22nd August 2013 Further information will follow regarding times for collection of Summer 2013 Exam results – if candidates are unable to attend to collect their results on the dates given above they must provide a stamped addressed envelope to the Exams Office. YEAR 11 MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES Year 11 students are working hard on controlled assessment at the moment. We are running the following support sessions to help students achieve their potential. Spanish – Thursday 3.30pm with Mr Hunton (D1.1) French – Thursday 3.30pm with Miss Westwood (D1.5) German – Friday lunchtime with Mr Hunton (D1.1) Parents can help students preparing for controlled assessment by ensuring that they complete drafts and reminding them to bring their support sheets to the lesson itself. GCSE DANCE – UNIT 2 EXAMS The students have been working on this examination piece since January and are making excellent progress. The date of the exam is Thursday 7th March and will take place in the Dance studio. The examination piece is recorded and examined externally by the exam board. Students will be given an examination slot of 10 minutes. During this 10 minutes students will have the option of completing the examination piece up to 3 times. If they do perform the examination piece more than once, it is the student’s responsibility to decide which one to put forward. Students will arrive / leave their lessons an hour before their examination slot to give them time to get changed and warm up. Students will be supervised in DS2 so will be able to rehearse the work should they wish to during that time. Once the exam is completed, students will need to get changed back into their uniform and return to lessons. Students must ensure they have enough hair bobbles and grips to ensure their hair is secure, as should it come loose they may loose marks. All jewellery should be removed and I would recommend that anything valuable is left at home. With 32 students and all their belongings going in and out of the same room throughout the day items are easily lost! I would ask that students do not wear false eyelashes or cover themselves in fake tan. Students must remember this is an exam, not a Dance show and therefore their appearance should reflect this. GCSE FOOD AND TEXTILES TECHNOLOGY The pre release theme for the AQA Year 11 exams are now available to students for them to do some independent study on. The design question in their exam will be based on this theme and carries a lot of marks. Food Research Context – Food products for consumers with special dietary needs Design Theme – Sweet and savoury biscuit products Textiles Context – Worldwide transport Theme – Educational product for a child ART EXAMS Please Click Here to view the latest Art Exam Timetable. The musical is based on the 1984 smash hit film starring Kevin Bacon and holds all the charm and the sophistication(!!!) of the 80s. This is a romp back through time where manly men wore perms, MTV played music and musicians played live, where neon was in and caution was out. The 80s was a time where everyone celebrated Dance. Everyone that is except the quiet town of Bomont. All that is about to change when Ren McCormack and his mother leave the hustle and bustle of Ch icago to start a new life in this rule driven town. Through the power of Dance Ren sets to bring the autocratic townsfolk of Bomont to their knees! The Box Office is now open and you can click here for the ticket booking form. Tickets will be £10 per person, with concessions (student / OAP) at £7.50. The request for tickets before the Box Office opening has already been extremely high and in light of ‘Superstar’ selling out in the first week, we advise you to book early to avoid disappointment. YEAR 11 RAISING ACHIEVEMENT WORKSHOP Your child will soon be embarking on the final term of their GCSE courses and the GCSE examinations are fast approaching. This is without doubt the most crucial time for students to ensure that they reach their full potential and are able to move on successfully to the next pathway in their lives. At this stage students need the support of both parents/guardians and teachers to help them to get over this final hurdle. As part of the continuing support we offer students for raising achievement at The Arthur Terry School, we would like to invite you and your child to participate in a one hour Raising Achievement Workshop on Tuesday 26th March 2013. You and your child will be met in the school foyer at 6:15 pm and directed to the venue of your workshop. This will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s Progress Leader and take part in activities tailored to demonstrate how you can help your child reach their individual target grades or indeed exceed them. The workshops will also provide you, as parents/guardians, with the tools you need to support your child in the time leading up to their examinations. You will be given your child’s final Working at Grades Data and the finalised copy of their examination timetable, along with rules and regulations for exams. This is essential preparation for your child which you are urged to attend. Please confirm your attendance to shumphries@arthurterry.bham.sch.uk by 11th March 2013 so we are able to allocate places and assign you to a workshop.
