On a bleak Friday evening in February a party of 40 keen KS4 French students embarked on an epic overnight journey to the beautiful Chateau de la Baudonniere in Avranches, Normandy for a weekend of total language immersion. We arrived tired but inspired as the welcome was warm, the breakfast hearty and the itinerary for the following 3 days interesting to say the least. Our designated “animateur” Lilie was on hand from day one to ensure that all communications were in French from dining room etiquette through to more complex outdoor sporting instructions. As well as an action packed programme of events at the Chateau which included the sampling of freshly prepared snails! We went to a local market, visited the picturesque Mont St. Michel, saw the famous beaches at Arromanches and spent time in the American Cemetery – with commentaries delivered entirely in French courtesy of Alison and Valentin, our trusted companions. Our students were superb and all four members of accompanying staff were incredibly proud not only of the impeccable behaviour demonstrated but of the engagement shown throughout the trip. We look forward to repeating the experience in 2016!
