November 2012

At Arthur Terry we like to create a positive ethos through effective recognition of achievement, effort and progress in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. Praise is a key feature of the School Development Plan and is significant in contributing to success and personal development of all students. The school reward system is displayed in a pyramid format. The Praise Pyramid encourages the active and direct involvement of all staff and allows for all students regardless of ability, gender or age to be given the opportunity to achieve within the rewards framework. Central to the rewards philosophy is the expectation that all teachers will praise students, including contacting parents, as a matter of routine and means of motivating students and establishing a positive climate for learning. The principal is that Students collect as many praise points as they can which lead to half termly rewards and end of term celebratory events. Achievement Points are recorded and circulated weekly to Tutors and shared in form time where students can celebrate together. Last year students were rewarded in many ways including gift vouchers and school vouchers which enabled them to enjoy their rewards throughout the year. If you have any enquiries about the Arthur Terry Rewards System please do not hesitate to contact the school, either to or EXAMINATIONS We now have a dedicated page for exams information on the Arthur Terry website, please click here to visit the page. PE FOOTWEAR I would like to remind you that students are encouraged to wear suitable footwear for indoor and outdoor PE lessons. Specifically, students should wear non-slip trainers to ensure that they have appropriate grip. School considers footwear such as VANs and other canvas ‘pump style’ shoes to be a poor alternative. Whilst school will not prevent students from participating in lessons whilst wearing this type of footwear it is highly recommended that parents follow this guidance to minimise risk to their child. GCSE FOOD TECHNOLOGY All Year 11 Food Technology students should be working on the development of their chosen product. This will require that they bring in ingredients to their allocated lesson, once every fortnight (by contacting their teacher). They will need to complete at least 6 of these.
