Bat’s the way to do it! England cricket champion Tammy Beaumont has been bowled over by the sporting success of female students at the Arthur Terry School. The successful batting wicket keeper visited the outstanding academy (yesterday) to provide a coaching workshop as part of an innovative cricket programme. Arthur Terry School’s girls’ cricket is going from strength to strength – thanks to the partnership and support work of Chance to Shine. The programme offers quality coaching and support for school students and staff to develop the provision for cricket within schools and inspire the next generation of female players. The support last year enabled the school’s U13 team to be crowned Sutton Schools Champions and Birmingham Runners-Up. The U14 team travelled to Trent Bridge last year to complete in the Lady Taverners Indoor County Cricket final and this year’s U13 squad have high aspirations. Many of the U13 squad have set their sights high and are aspiring to play like their role model, Tammy Beaumont. The school has many county representatives and local club players within its team. Tammy Beaumont has recently competed in the Final of the Women’s T20 Competition in India. She is a batting wicket keeper who represents Kent as her home county. She is welcomed to Arthur Terry to provide 1:1 coaching workshop on batting and wicket keeping; sharing her tricks of the trade with its young players. Tammy said: ‘it was great to come along to Arthur Terry and meet the girls and see their enthusiasm for playing cricket. I wish them all the best of luck in their forthcoming tournament.’ The school eagerly await the Sutton Schools Cricket tournament which commences on 10 May at Wyndley.
