Following on from last years event, Arthur Terry school hosted a Poetry evening for year 7 students. As usual there was no shortage of talent with some wonderful performances from the students who read out their outstanding poems. To compliment this, the evening was compared by Year 9 Students Will Kirby, Hannah Cook, Elliott Perlic and Maddy Underwood. Singers Kiera Davies and Livia Petit also entertained the audience with their incredible voices ahead of the judging by Daniel Gerrard and Emma Gorewere. The 30 students involved read their poems beautifully and were thoroughly engaging. With the tension rising the winner was finally announced as Saffa Fraz who was awarded the 2014 poet laureate with runners up Helaina Jones and Ben Scholes also putting in worthy performances. When asked about why she had entered the competition Saffa said “I love poetry and thought this is a chance for everyone to hear my poems”. She said “It was an enjoyable evening listening to all the different poems. After I had won, it was amazing. I never thought I’d get through to the final” A huge well done to all 30 students involved who read their poems beautifully, and to all the students involved in making the event so special.
