More than thirty dedicated students from across the Arthur Terry School took the lead by attending a celebratory praise event in honour of their hard work throughout the year.
Students from all year groups – who sit on a number of leadership teams that organise and help out at numerous events across the school calendar – came together to receive personal thanks and certificates from their headteacher. They also celebrated with the odd treat or two.
The students who attended, along with some of their fellow classmates, work together in their spare time to ensure that events, shows and other key activities run smoothly, both inside and outside of school hours.
Headteacher Neil Warner commended the students’ “generosity of spirit” and praised them for their commitment to school life and strong work ethic.
He told the young leaders: “The best ambassadors for this school are our students – you are all brilliant and I congratulate you on your achievements. You will look back on this year with great pride and the school would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ for your hard work and dedication.”
Year 10 student, Hannah Farmer, who is a year group leader and member of ‘Big School’ said: “I love working with the school. It’s great that we can represent Arthur Terry at events like open days and parents’ evenings. It’s a chance to be engaged and contribute to the school.”
Hannah, whose duties have included speaking to primary school pupils from neighbouring schools, added that the responsibility and experience has been of enormous benefit to her personal and career development, ahead of her work placement at Birmingham Hippodrome this summer.
Fellow year 10 student Elliot Perlic, is involved in the junior leadership team and year group leaders. This term he has been involved in organising events for Arthur Terry’s America and Canada Day and directing the school’s production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
“It’s great to get together with all the student leaders and to celebrate with them. Being part of these groups has been beneficial on many levels, in terms of responsibility and enjoyment. There has been such a positive response to recent events that we are planning even bigger and better for next year!”
